Illinois-based home pharmacy services company DeliverCareRx has opened a new distribution facility in Livermore, Calif., to supply hospices with medications.
The new location will serve the Bay Area as well as other communities in California and adjacent states. DeliverCareRx is a licensed pharmacy in all 50 states and primarily services hospice patients and those suffering from serious or chronic illnesses.
“We are very excited about this first location out west, as it will easily provide support to our hospice partners in the western states of the United States,” said Jason Kimbrel, vice president at DeliverCareRx. “From the beginning, DeliverCareRx understood the needs of hospice and had a desire to offer a true nationwide home delivery model and this new location puts us in a strategic position to service all our hospice partners around the country.”
Headquartered in Mount Prospect, Ill., just outside of Chicago, the company also has a location in Tampa, Fla., and has plans for further expansion into new markets.
Hospice utilization in California reached 42.5% in California during 2017, according to the National Hospice & Palliative Care Organization. This is compared to a national average of slightly more than 50%. Utah leads the nation in utilization with 59.4% of Medicare decedents electing hospice.
Seniors are expected to become California’s fastest-growing population. Between now and 2026, the number of Californians 65 and older is expected to climb by 2.1 million, according to the state’s Department of Finance. The number of 25- to 64-year-olds is projected to grow by just more than half a million.
People older than 65 comprised 11% of the state’s population in 2018, and that is expected to double by 2040, a faster rate than the national growth of that population.
DeliverCareRx services include 24-hour pharmacy support, non-sterile compounding, pre-filled syringes, and automated and non-automated IPU solutions.
“DeliverCareRx is very excited to open our new state of the art California pharmacy solely specialized on serving hospices and hospice patients,” said Dave Krishna, president and CEO of DeliverCareRx. “The state of California is very important to our strategic plan and we could not be happier to open our pharmacy in Livermore and bring our best in class customer service model to the California hospice community. The DeliverCareRx home delivery and in-patient unit (IPU) models and our PBM partnership have proven to be a game changer for hospices throughout the country. This new facility in Livermore will allow us to offer further cost savings and increased services to all hospices throughout the Bay Area, the state of California and entire Western US.”
